Bailey lay there in her room, staring at the ceiling. Naked, she had Finn's arm draped around her. He'd fallen immediately asleep. No wonder, he'd been working all morning. He was probably exhausted. She didn't even know when he'd started, only that he’d already been working before she'd woken up.

So, it wasn't just once. It was at least twice. Was it a fling? Was it a thing? She still didn't know, but she knew it wasn't nothing. She had to consider the idea that this man kept asking her to marry him and that she knew—no matter what she wanted—what was right for her and what wasn't.

The problem was she wanted two completely separate things. She wanted what her Mama and Daddy had. Maybe not the end of it, maybe not the way her Mama had gone or the way her Daddy had gone, it turned out, but she wanted that kind of love.

She wanted a man whose eyes lit up every time he talked about her. While she couldn't quite yet bring herself to forgive her Daddy for the way he'd chosen to go, she understood, at least in her soul, that he'd done it because he couldn't live without her mother.

On the other hand, she wanted Finn. Finn was the only one who'd ever made her feel truly alive, but she knew if she went down that road, she was going to wind up not where she wanted. They came from two different worlds.

The two of them had always burned bright and hot. She'd known, even as a senior in high school, that bright and hot burned out. Mama and Daddy had been slow and steady. Thad and Harper Rose? Bright and hot. And though they'd made it till death do us part, man, had Thad fucked things up. Bailey Ann didn't want that either, so she lay there breathing shallowly and thinking, no decisions yet made.

Did she throw herself at Finn? Burn bright and hot, burnout, enjoy it while she had it? Or should she do the hard thing and push them aside now before bright and hot got too bright and too hot? That was a very hard decision to make when bright and hot had his big sexy arm thrown across her waist and both of them were naked in her bed in the middle of the afternoon. It was a hard decision to make when bright and hot made her feel alive, when everything around her felt like it was grinding to a halt. At least he hadn't asked her to marry him again, because the answer to that question got harder and harder the closer they got.

She lay there, unable to pass out and sleep away the afternoon like he did. It was another hour before he finally shifted, breathed heavier, and then roused and looked at her.
